Rev. Shawn Kosho Yagi is our resident minister.
Bio for Rev. Shawn Kosho Yagi
Rev. Yagi was born on April 4, 1976, in Shiga, Japan. He received Tokudo in August 1991 and Kyoshi in April 1998. He is a graduate of Chuo Bukkyou Gakuin Honka (Basic Course) 1999, and Kenkyuuka (Advance Course) 2000
His work history is a great variety of experiences, including the Hakodate Betsuin, Hokkaido, 2000-2002 and working at Kenz Motor as a Sales Assistant from October 2002 – August 2003.
Rev. Yagi arrived in Hawaii in September 2003 as an Over Seas District Minister. He has served as resident minister for Lahaina Hongwanji (November 2003 – November 2006), Kapa’a Hongwanji (November 2006-November 2009, Honoka’a Hongwanji with oversee services to Kamuela, Kohala and Paauilo (November 2009-June 2014) and Aiea Hongwanji (August 2004-September 2022).
Rev. Yagi became an American Citizen in May 2016. He is married to Sayuri Yagi, who is originally from Hiroshima.
As Rev. Yagi has said in his own words, “I want to get to know members of Lihue Hongwanji and the people around the Temple and be intimate with them. I will try to work with members to make a clear vision of the Temple and spread the Nembutsu teachings to the community.”
